PBNU Chairperson: Koran Reading Test for Good Candidates but No Act

Jurnal Portal. Jakarta - PBNU Chair Marsudi Syuhud views the proposed Qur'an reading test for presidential and vice presidential candidates as a good thing. However, according to Syuhud, there are no laws governing the implementation of the Qur'an reading test.

"That is a good proposal. The name is a proposal, either because in Muslim majority countries, one. Number two, only this there is no law, the rules, what's wrong? It means there is no requirement that the president is reading the Koran. implemented, yes, there must be a law, but if people ask for today, it is obligatory, yes, it is not mandatory by law, but it is good, "Syuhud said when contacted on Sunday (12/30/2018).

Syuhud said that he could not obstruct the implementation of the Koran reading test for the presidential candidate. Syuhud also claimed that he could not force all parties to agree to run the proposed test to read the Koran.

"For me personally, if it's done well, if it's not done, the law doesn't exist yet, how about it?" he said.

If you want to implement the proposal, Syuhud advised the government to make laws that regulate it. The regulation also, said Syuhud, must be discussed with various parties.

"If there is a rule, it is implemented, this is not the rule, however good or not good, however good, those who propose it are good, but make the rules. Number three, yes if all of us are democratic, governed by deliberation, agreement, make the rules also deliberation, consensus within the framework of democracy. If you have deliberations, reach consensus, yes there it is, "he said.

The Koran reading test invitation had previously come from the Aceh Dai Association. The two presidential and vice presidential candidates were invited to take the Koran reading test to end the polemic about Islamic candidates. The plan, the Koran reading test will be held at Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, Banda Aceh, on January 15, 2019.

"To end the Islamic policemen and vice presidential polemic, we propose a Koran reading test for the two pairs of candidates," said Chairperson of the Aceh Dai Association, Tgk Marsyuddin Ishak, in Banda Aceh, Saturday (29/12).
